On April 30th, 2025, history touched down at Denver International Airport. For the first time ever, the world’s largest passenger jet—the double-decker Lufthansa Airbus A380—landed in the Mile High City on a nonstop flight from Munich.
This major milestone wasn’t just celebrated on the runway. It continued in style at SKYLIGHT, where Lufthansa hosted an exclusive post-landing corporate event to mark the occasion.
Rather than opting for a conventional hotel ballroom, Lufthansa sought a venue that reflected both the energy of downtown Denver and the brand’s refined, forward-thinking identity. SKYLIGHT was the perfect fit: a modern, flexible venue space nestled in the heart of the Santa Fe Arts District, known for its clean architecture and creative vibe.
A Celebration Rooted in German Culture & Colorado Creativity
From the start, Lufthansa made it clear: This wouldn’t be your average airline event. Their vision was to blend German tradition with Colorado’s local arts and culture scene, and they did just that—with unforgettable results.
The evening’s color palette was inspired by Lufthansa’s iconic branding: crisp blues and whites reminiscent of their aircraft, airport lounges, and signature in-flight experience. These colors were reflected throughout the space, from custom signage to tasteful lounge accents—right down to yellow pillows from the airline’s own cabin, which were worked into the lounge setups for an elevated, on-brand touch.
The guest list included several high-profile attendees: the Mayor of Denver, Mike Johnston (who gave a surprise speech), the CEO of Denver International Airport, the CEO of Munich Airport, and of course, Lufthansa’s own team and flight crew. The media presence was strong, and for good reason—this was a monumental day for international travel in Colorado.
Exceptional Food, Local Flair, and Elevated Experiences
Catering by Design curated a full-service experience, going well beyond the plate. In addition to providing a standout culinary spread that honored Lufthansa’s German roots, the team also supplied furniture, décor, and custom Lufthansa signage—like the branded bar that served as a focal point of the space.
Guests were treated to a German beer tasting hosted by Patrick Combs—one of just 28 Master Cicerones in the world—who happens to be based right here in Colorado. This was more than just a tasting; it was an immersive, educational experience that perfectly paired German brewing heritage with local expertise.
Adding to the cultural experience, local artist Grey Grimm painted live during the event, while musicians from the Colorado Symphony performed, creating an atmosphere that was as refined as it was entertaining.
Details That Took Off
While the grand Airbus A380 arrival made headlines, the celebration at SKYLIGHT is what truly made the event unforgettable. Our favorite detail? The use of real airplane carts to pass champagne and hors d’oeuvres—a brilliant, unexpected nod to Lufthansa’s aviation roots. It was thoughtful touches like this that elevated the event and tied the airline’s brand story into the guest experience.
