A Groovy and Moody Wedding at SKYLIGHT

November 30, 2023

When Casey and Dan booked SKYLIGHT for their wedding, we knew it was going to be an event as unique as their love story.

The couple met and bonded over the fact that they each had a peach in their bag that day, and chalked it up to fate. Turns out, it was.

Fast forward to their engagement: Casey and Dan wanted a fun and casual wedding with no formal seating, and cocktail style dinner service. Casey specifically asked SKYLIGHT Planner, Erin, to incorporate anything cool and unexpected that went along with their disco/retro theme.

Casey and Dan trusted Erin to execute her vision — and she definitely understood the assignment!

Erin brought the couple’s vision to life by creating an eclectic “retro maximalist” design filled with odes to their love story.

Signage at the entrance of SKYLIGHT read ‘That’s Amore’ honoring Dan’s Italian heritage, while an order of events sign hung from the ceiling. SKYLIGHT’s in-house grid walls were adorned with boho floral arrangements, which added depth and texture to the display.

For the ceremony, Erin wanted an epic installation and to incorporate different materials with less focus on florals. Wandering Poppy created a modern and glamorous installation that mixed both bold color and shine with soft and playful botanical blooms and mixed mediums that had an overall 70’s vibe.

Guests circled around the bride and groom and held LED tapered candles to create a candlelit vibe. The couple stood underneath the installation which was perfectly juxtaposed with the black and white dance floor beneath their feet.

Cocktail hour was held outside on SKYLIGHT’s patio, and Love Pop Catering provided small plate stations including a grazing board, pizza, sliders and chile rellenos.

Inside, the couple opted for a nontraditional combination of both seating and cocktail tables, as well as lounges.

A few surprises took place throughout the day.

First, Erin arranged to have the theater down the street from SKYLIGHT customize their marquee as a gift to the couple. Their photographer took them over for photos as a surprise!

The second surprise was a performance by Casey’s uncle, which Casey and Dan danced to as their first dance. Once everyone joined the dance floor, SKYLIGHT Beverage tray passed espresso martini shots to keep the party going!

As the night went on, guests took photos with a vintage taxi cab, an element that Casey wanted to bring in specifically for photos.

With the help of SKYLIGHT Planning and their incredible vendor team, Casey and Dan took advantage of SKYLIGHT’s blank canvas space to create the day of their dreams, and a party that none of us will soon forget!
