Some weddings feel timeless. Others feel electric.
Rekah and Mike’s September Saturday wedding at SKYLIGHT landed firmly in the second category — a full-sensory jungle disco rave that proved weddings don’t have to follow tradition to be deeply meaningful. With bold design choices, immersive lighting, and nonstop dancing, this celebration redefined what a SKYLIGHT Denver wedding can look like.
Planned and designed by Sophie with 828 Planning, the day was proof that when couples are given the freedom to create something truly personal, magic happens.

From “Maybe No Wedding” to Full-On Disco Rave Wedding
Before working with 828 Planning, Rekah and Mike weren’t even sure they wanted a wedding at all — and they definitely didn’t want a multi-day, overly traditional event. What changed everything was realizing they could throw a celebration that felt like them.
Enter the vision: a jungle disco rave inside an industrial Denver wedding venue.
SKYLIGHT’s DIY-friendly nature flexible layout make it one of the most creative industrial wedding venues in Denver, allowing couples to throw the rulebook out entirely. Instead of pastels and soft romance, the couple leaned hard into bold, saturated color, immersive lighting, and high-energy experiences inspired by their love of concerts and raves.

Designing a Disco Jungle at SKYLIGHT Denver
This wedding was built around a high-level creative plan developed by 828 Planning, complete with custom shopping lists, installation guidance, and dramatic visual moments that took full advantage of SKYLIGHT’s soaring ceilings and open layout.
Key design elements included:
A mylar tape geometric starburst aisle installation, adding to the disco shimmer overhead
A DIY ceiling installation, adding intrigue the moment guests entered
Bold, bright color choices (intentionally avoiding pastels)
LED lighting used to create a glowing “rave mountain” effect along the walls
Lasers, fog, and disco spotlights layered throughout the space

The result was an atmosphere that felt immersive, unexpected, and completely transportive; a perfect example of what’s possible at a nontraditional wedding venue in Denver.

A Dance Floor That Never Stopped
If there was one non-negotiable for Rekah and Mike, it was the energy.
Music and dancing weren’t just part of the evening…they were the evening.
DJ Jaz went all in, even bringing a second operator dedicated solely to lights and fog. The couple also surprised guests with a rave outfit change, instantly shifting the night into full concert mode.

One of Sophie’s favorite moments? The first dance.
Here’s why: Less than a minute into “Runaway,” the entire wedding party flooded the dance floor. Right on cue, the lights dimmed, disco spotlights locked onto the couple, lasers cut through the fog, and the room exploded into movement. It wasn’t a slow, quiet moment — it was communal, euphoric, and unforgettable.
This level of production is exactly why couples searching for a unique wedding venue in Denver are drawn to SKYLIGHT.
Guest Experiences That Stole the Show at this Denver Wedding
This wedding was packed with interactive moments, many of which became instant guest favorites:
A rave station stocked with body glitter, foam glow sticks, and temporary tattoos
SKYLIGHT’s in-house Photo Booth, capturing the chaos, outfits, and joy all night long
A floral + disco dance floor ceiling installation that had guests staring upward between songs
- Custom cocktails and mocktails from SKYLIGHT Beverage, themed after The Great Gatsby
Incredible Indian food from Yak and Yeti, which multiple guests (and Sophie!) said was some of the best food ever served at a wedding

These elements transformed the wedding from a single event into a series of experiences; one of the biggest reasons it resonated so strongly with guests.
Personal Touches That Made It Theirs
Rekah and Mike found ways to weave meaning and humor into every part of the day:
Their dog walked down the aisle
Rose garland tikkas were incorporated to honor Indian culture
QR codes educated guests about land grants and related programs
Instead of cake, they cut into a giant Voodoo Doughnut (complete with an unintentionally hilarious attempt at a donut featuring their dog’s face)
