Q&A with a Denver Wedding Planner: Sophie’s Secrets to Wedding Magic

March 1, 2025

Planning a wedding is an exciting journey, but bringing your dream day to life takes organization, creativity, and a deep understanding of all the little details.

At SKYLIGHT in Denver, our in-house planner, Sophie, from 828 Planning, is here to make the process effortless—whether you’re tying the knot at SKYLIGHT or another stunning spot in the Mile High City.

We caught up with Sophie to chat about what it really takes to plan a wedding, why Denver is the perfect place to say “I do,” and her best advice for couples gearing up for their big day.

Q: What drew you to become an event planner?
A: In college I knew I loved events and originally wanted to be a festival planner. The creativity and logistical skills involved always spoke to me, but I was missing out on building professional relationships with my clients. What really motivates me to put my heart into the events I produce is the people. Curating a couple’s special day into something they will never forget allows me to make a positive impact on people’s lives. That impact is something I am always proud of.

Q: What is a typical event day like as an event planner?
A: Every day and every event is a little different. Most days involve managing logistics, vendors, communication, and a lot of problem solving. Event days are my adult “game days”. They are long and taxing, but as a competitive person, very rewarding.

Q: What makes Denver such a great city for weddings?
A: With the blend of urban character of the art districts and the natural beauty of the mountains, it’s the perfect place for a wide variety of events. The overall mild weather will be great for anyone who dances at weddings like they are at Zumba.

Q: What is your favorite wedding design you’ve created at SKYLIGHT?
A: [My clients] Emily and Matt had a timeless romantic design that utilized white linen drapes in a beautiful ceiling-installation-turned-love-altar.

Q: What part of an event day is your favorite?
A: I am always a sucker for toasts during weddings. It’s the most authentic perspective I have on my clients lives and I truly get to see their personalities shine though their friends and family.

Q: Do you have any advice for couples planning their wedding in 2025/2026?
A: Do not forget that this day is for you and your partner! There are a lot of opinions from a lot of people so remember to be honest with yourself and do what makes YOU happy. The biggest regret I hear from my clients is choosing to do things for other people. You get one day! Spend it wisely.
